Virginia Estate Taxes

Upon your death federal and Virginia taxes can be collected.  If your estate is large enough to meet the minimum filing standards ($1.5 million for deaths in 2005), the executor of your estate has 9 months to file United States Estate Tax Return (IRS Form 706) and pay any taxes that are due.

Probate: Virginia courts and your Last Will

Probate has come to be known as the legal process where a deceased person's estate is administered and distributed.  Probate fees mainly consist of the cost of hiring a probate attorney.  For a simple Virginia Will and estate probate fees are generally reasonable.
